This game has come a long way from the beta stages, yet it is still far away from finish. The character designs are still being implemented, but what has been done is beautiful. There is a wide variety of characters to be chosen from, and there are still more to come with colors of characters to put into the game.
Monster designs are amazing and simple all in one. The 2D enemies start as cute little animals and such to level up on, then they start to get larger, uglier, and more demonic as you get to higher levels.
Now these 2D sprites have to go into some sort of world, and the world is completely 3D. Cities, fields, dungeons are all 3D. The world of Ragnarok keeps growing and becoming more beautiful with each update. The environment has varieties of vibrant colors in cities, to brownish grey cities that are stuck in the desert life, all the way to dungeons with undead orcs and such.
To go with these worlds has to be music. This is one of the high points, every different map you walk into has different music. The music is so catchy, you don't get annoyed by it after the 10000 hour you've played it. If you ever want to, you can always play your MP3's and turn off the in game music, but who wants to mute such music. The cities have very cheerful music that shows prosper through the cities with 10's to 100's of players in each city.
The gameplay is very addictive with 100's of paths to choose. You can be very high agility characters, to priests that support others, or become blacksmiths that can create weapons & gear with the proper items. The world keeps growing and more players keep playing. You can make many friends and join guilds to keep yourself occupied and having fun.
The question is...now since it is out of the beta stage and making players pay, should you pay ??? I currently pay and I love it. It isn't over priced, but the main downfall is that you're paying for a game that isn't finished. The way the game progress makes it feel as it will never be finished. So saying you're paying for an unfinished product will never sound right, until you start playing it. At some point in time, the game will be near finished, and that's as close as it will ever be, because it will always be updated, and ideas will be implemented into it. That is the beauty of Ragnarok Online. It's a world that keeps changing, but always for the better.
The music that goes with every map is amazing, one of the high points to the game.
